A task and a purpose of the tubular impurities restrainer is to keep the filings and splinters of a turbo charger in case it breaks down. A structural implementation of the restrainer is constructed so that it does not affect the engine performance. Before producing the restrainer, the company Miha Škoda s.p. had carried out a study and a simulation of the restrainer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Maribor, where we had answered dubious questions about the restrainer. The results of the study showed that a restrainer does not have a significant impact on the operation of an engine, since a higher drop causes cooler air and various cross-sections of clamps. In the charging system we are dealing primarily with a mass of air and the flow rate of air, rather than pressure. Through the reservoir the speed of air flow is increased but there is still enough air provided to fill the engine. The company has conducted testing on various types of vehicles with different engines and volumes. The vehicles were tested for about 3 months and the results showed that motor operation is not interrupted by the restrainer. We did not notice any noticeable side effects (increased consumption, power loss, unresponsive engine), which could have a negative effect on an engine. The company recommends the restrainer to the owners of VW group with a turbo charger damage, which was not resolved by the manufacturer.
